About 22-24 years ago, Dexter and I were just getting started on what became an annual tradition of getting drunk and scaring kids on Halloween. I mean, uh, that is... uh, running a Haunted House on Halloween. Anyway, at that time, he would sit in the middle of the garage as a sort of evil leper, stirring a pot of foaming dry ice water. The little kids would get a kick out of it and we would sip some nice Beer or Ale and chat between guests.
This one lad, about 10-11, came with his father to the doorway. I was hiding behind the door with this life-like evil looking mask that blended well with my features. The kid looked over at Dexter's act and then looked up at this father as if to say "This is kinda hokey- it don't scare me a bit" As he stepped throught the doorway I quietly took his fathers place walking behind him.
There were a few kids ahead of him as made his way to Dexter. When he finally got to Dex the kid looked over the scene and once again looked up towards what he thought was his father to scoff and smirk. I bent over so my face was inches above his. He turned, looked up, saw my evil, convincing mask and a look of UTTER TERROR swept over his face.
Very satisfying moment.
